If You Don’t Mind, I Would Like To Be Your…

Woman On A Chair

To be alive and breathe and move

And eat and drink and speak

And read and write

Is mighty fine indeed,

But when I think of you,

I would prefer to be inanimate.

The tiny house wherein you live,

The pillow on which you dream,

The tub you bathe in,

The soapy sponge you rub

On your arms, your thighs, your other body-parts,

The towel that around your waspish waist you wrap,

The jeans and bra you wear,

The table at which you eat,

The spoon from which you sip,

The chair on which you sit,

Are not these inanimate things more alive

Than me?

Oh, would that I were your toothbrush, so you would kiss me thrice a day!

  1. Very nice work. It seems to me to have layer upon layer of fine, translucent thoughts where one can see through every layer to the subject covered so well. My secular real world is pushing aside my digital persona and shouting, “Gnarley Dude!”, with two thumbs up.

      1. Ah. If I may, did you specifically attempt to put some thought behind these, or is it closer to the realm of general “musings” and starry eyed emotion?

  2. That’s charming. The imagery is really unusual, but it reminds me of something… maybe Greek mythology? There’s a lot of stories about the Gods transforming into inanimate objects to be with the mortals they love.

  3. To be kissed thrice a day! Would you would deny the object of your affection the closeness and protection of your presence, the scent of your shirt and your hair, and that all-important touch, those brushings of fingertips, of arms, of lips? You surprise me. I had not thought you a selfish boy, but your insistence to be inanimate and unable to reciprocate the love you feel is disgraceful. What have you to say for yourself?

  4. Sorry, I unfollowed you a while back, as I was getting overwhelmed with reading blogs (especially as I feel a compulsion to comment frequently on posts, rather than just liking them!). Well, I’m now re-following you as I miss your blog and quality posts. So “hello” once again 🙂
