Painting of an apple tree

Treading a dusty country road, a traveller ate an apple, and threw the core in a ditch. Years later, his great-grandson was treading the same road, on his way to the city, when he noticed an apple tree laden with fruit. He climbed into it, and ate some tasty apples.

  1. This morning I left the countryside to pick plums from trees along a busy roadside. Were they planted, or were the stones thrown casually from car windows to plant themselves? Who knows for certain where today comes from?
