Ay, in the catalogue ye go for men;
As hounds and greyhounds, mongrels, spaniels, curs,
Shoughs, water-rugs and demi-wolves, are clept
All by the name of dogs: the valued file
Distinguishes the swift, the slow, the subtle,
The housekeeper, the hunter, every one
According to the gift which bounteous nature
Hath in him closed.
Shakespeare in Macbeth
In my rare trips outside I observe the men around me. I feel like a mongrel compared to many of them.
I’m so short and frail and unhandsome…
When I look at girls or women I see my mongrel frame reflected in their eyes.
It makes me weep.
The hat doesn’t improve things that much.
The dalmatian has his spots, and they make him a fancy dog. But the mongrel can never earn permanent spots, no matter what he does.
Through hard work and discipline I might become a good writer some day, but never tall and beefy and handsome…
People, like dogs, are not born equal. And this hatted boy does not have good lineage.
That’s why he prefers his shadowy attic. No green eyes there to sadden him with their reflection…

The attractiveness comes mostly from inner self-confidence and character. The way people see you depends on how you see yourself. I’d advise to work on that point & you’ll start growing your ” spots” ;).
That post is 100% melancholic. Very nice yet melancholic…
I agree with black&white colors: “The attractiveness comes mostly from inner self-confidence and character.” I just don’t think the same about: “The way people see you depends on how you see yourself.”
“When I look at girls or women I see my mongrel frame reflected in their eyes.” It is what you see. Probably, what you see reflected in their eyes can not please you, but how can you know if when people look at you they see/think the same as you? Maybe they look at you and like your frail shape. Maybe what you see as “unhandsome”, can be “cute” in someone’s eyes.
Very well written, but I’m not sure it’s completely true. If a someone is attracted to you solely because of how you look, then they wouldn’t be in love with the person that lies beneath the shell of the human body. Your personality and character is what they should seek, and they will see what a wonderful person and talented writer you are. 🙂
Looks do not maketh the man hatted-boy. Mongrels have so many endearing & alluring qualities they are loved and give as much love as ‘pure-breds’….
What are you doing??.just b yourself..change what should b change..n stay for whatever should b..we can’t denied what people think in anyways..B-)
I’d tell you you’re wrong on at least some counts, but then I think all of those things too, so who am I to lecture. Still, you’re a bit of a harsh prosecutor 🙂
