After her beloved dog died from natural causes, Eleanor locked herself in her room and wept. Meanwhile, her husband, wishing to comfort her, stuffed the dog.
Happy with the result, he brought it to her. At the sight of it she fainted.
When she recovered, Eleanor spoke one word:
Divorce!

I write as a way of life: stories, blogs, articles, almost-poems. I'm a freelancer, a vegetarian, and I listen to Leonard Cohen and enjoy French films. We are dying a little more with each new day we live, so shouldn't we make the most of our time?

Love this one.
I tip my hat!
I’ve only ever seen one stuffed dog. It was a large white Parisian poodle, sitting in its favourite basket out in the sun with a perpetual snarl on its face. I was told by my companion that it was a French thing to stuff favourite pets (after death, of course). This was thirty-five years ago, so have no idea if it’s still allowed.
Your 50-word story is most entertaining and neatly written.
I think you’re right about the French liking stuffed dogs. The only stuffed dogs I’ve seen were in films, in Amelie, and in another French title which I cannot remember.

Nice of him to want to comfort her. It is understandable and even cute, but in a disastrous way. Men…
I can imagine his face after hearing what she said.
Funny and interesting the situation…
These husbands…
Oh my goodness…. I’d probably say the same thing… LOL Cool post though…
Stuffed love … what else could she have felt ?
That’s well said. π
Wow!!! Where do you get these ideas from?
I think you are doing well in learning the art of few words.
Oliver Colors whispers them to me. π
I was in love once with a gal whose dad was a taxidermist. That sure was one creepy house to visit!
Did they have a stuffed bear? Paws uplifted and all that?
that would have been too bog for their double-wide, I’m afraid. When I said :house” I was being kindly euphemistic.
Midway through i thought that she would fall over his shoulder and cry
Have you read The Hotel New Hampshire? This made me think of it because of the dog/dead dog/stuffing saga that goes on through the book.
