The drunken student wrote two letters. The first, romantic and amorous, was to his sweetheart in the village. The second, ribald and shameless, to his mistress in the town.
Through an oversight he never forgave himself for, he mixed them up, sending the wrong letter to the wrong girl.

Who knows, it could have lit a fire under either relationship.
