Rose was in the rain, staring at her untied shoelace. Her hands were busy: in her left she held her umbrella; in her right, a heavy handbag. A hatted boy passing by noticed the cause of her discomfort. He knelt before her, and tied the troublesome shoelace. Rose blushed.
This week I’m republishing some of my favorite 50-word stories.

I write as a way of life: stories, blogs, articles, almost-poems. I'm a freelancer, a vegetarian, and I listen to Leonard Cohen and enjoy French films. We are dying a little more with each new day we live, so shouldn't we make the most of our time?

Lovely, succinct and tender…. 🙂
Just what I had in mind.
I hope their story didn’t end there..
It all depended on Rose…
I agree with Carolyn.
Boy, oh, boy…what a gentle man that hatted boy is..
No sensible man would pass by an untied shoelace when the wearer of the boot has a fine leg.
Rose would, of course, blush as such chivalry 🙂
Would she? 🙂
That’s such a lovely story…!
There should be more gentlemen like these in real life, not only fairytales.
I agree! Where is chivalry? It’s hard to remain polite in this world when most eye you suspiciously for opening doors, refuse light conversation and take advantage of generosity.
There should be more shoelaces to tie!
A hatted boy huh? HMMMM! 🙂
He just happened to pass by…
Ah, what a gentleman you are. What happens next? 🙂
It depends on Rose.
Oh! My heart!
That’s all kinds of kinky
A little bit, yes.
really fine sir!
Great ending. nIce surprise
This made me smile.
Nice story, Hatted Boy.
Reblogged this on Journey in my boat.
I wish I had someone to come to my rescue like this.
Maybe if you leave your shoelace untied next time you walk on the street someone will… 😉
