We think all the time, about ourselves, about others, about the past, about the future, about our problems, about the world around us, around everything really. But we seldom think about thinking, about the process itself, about the way we think. Here are some quotes that may inspire you to think in a different way.
1
“The test of a first-rate intelligence is the ability to hold two opposed ideas in mind at the same time and still retain the ability to function. “ ― F. Scott Fitzgerald
2
“We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.“ ― Albert Einstein
3
“Thinking will not overcome fear but action will.“ ― W. Clement Stone
4
“I think and think and think, I‘ve thought myself out of happiness one million times, but never once into it.” ― Jonathan Safran Foer
5
“The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it.” ― Terry Pratchett
6
“A long habit of not thinking a thing wrong gives it a superficial appearance of being right.“ ― Thomas Paine
7
“Clear thinking requires courage rather than intelligence.“ ― Thomas Szasz
8
“The mind ought sometimes to be diverted that it may return to better thinking.“ ― Phaedrus
9
“Very little is needed to make a happy life; it is all within yourself, in your way of thinking.“ ― Marcus Aurelius
10
“My mother said the cure for thinking too much about yourself was helping somebody who was worse off than you.” ― Sylvia Plath

I love the Jonathan Safron Foer quote. I’ve done this to myself way too much.
I prefer the last quote. I have tested it myself many times and it is true like reaping comes after sowing
Marcus Aurelius and Sylvia plath💛💛..thanks for sharing
I like 2 and 7
four and five.
I think all the time. It never stops. I enjoyed these quotes. 🙂 #1 though. That got me.
Lovely new perspective; thank you for this post. I especially liked Plath’s quote.

The Albert Einstein one, number 2, but that is because I’m a bit troubled by something, so it struck me that I need a new approach when i read that one. 🙂
Thank you for this. This was very enjoyable to read.
You’re welcome. 🙂
Sylvia Plath.
Think more about others. less about yourself.
True happiness:
Empty your mind of as many thoughts as possible.
Concentrate on solutions, not problems.
Laugh. Love. Give.

Great quotes! and most of them appeal to my over thinking self. Thank you!
love this
I love the Einstein quote!
I really loved the first and the last ones. Thinking too much (about ourselves, about each other, about things) is torturous most of the times. And Sylvia Plath knew this too well. (PS: Glad you took my previous comment into consideration 🙂 )
As a matter of fact, after writing the original list I realized it was full of men and then I thought of you and called upon Mrs. Plath.
“Clear thinking requires courage rather than intelligence.“ ― Thomas Szasz this one is my favorite 🙂
These are inspiring quotes but my favorite one is the last one
I really started thinking about my thoughts after reading Jonathan Safran. That at least for me is true. P.s i enjoyed reading your blog
My favourite would definitely have to be the Jonathan Safran Foer. It just made me think so much more about myself and really relatable!
It’s a shame Sylvia didn’t take her mother’s advice on board. Interesting line of quotes though. Someone wanting to fill an open mind – liked that

I like the first quote. It’s the equivalent of standing in another man’s shoes.

#2–Einstein. Difficult for most of us to totally shift our thinking and approach a problem from another direction. I took a philosophy/religion course once, and I was told that the saying “turn the other cheek” actually meant stop, turn, and look at things from a different point of view. Don’t know if that is true or not, but that is what I was told.

It is the catch, but essential to be open-minded. jk
