The boy slipped on his finger one of his mother’s rings and he couldn’t take it off. Mother applied oil on the ringed finger, and dipped it in cold water, and soaped it, but the ring would not come off. The boy wept.
‘Enough!’ father said.
He fetched the axe.

I write as a way of life: stories, blogs, articles, almost-poems. I'm a freelancer, a vegetarian, and I listen to Leonard Cohen and enjoy French films. We are dying a little more with each new day we live, so shouldn't we make the most of our time?

Haha! I enjoyed this one, feels like a story my Dad would tell me. I am somewhat glad that your presumably missing finger has not deterred you from writing, or perhaps hinder you from typing.
Great post as always.
I was fortunate. It was just a little finger…
Dear Boy, how are you? I hope your finger is in tact! My father almost detached my brothers fingers with a chain saw once. I’m not sure which is worse… Eeck.
Big hug lovely aunt! I am in a literary disposition. Seems you had a troubled childhood…
Ha, I hope you still have all your fingers. Enjoyed this story xxx
Oh. My. Gosh! The boy should run away now.
I love how with many of your stories that the best part is the unspoken scene, or the one that happens off stage – very clever.
50 words… there’s not much space!
That’s a hell of a place to leave the story. Excellently done.
I take a bow. (And my hat does not fall from my head.)
At this turn of the Year, may you have only good cheer!
Despite being only 50 words long, your stories are really gripping and powerful. You have a great ability to say the most with the least amount of words, and once again have written another spectacular story! 🙂
*Blush.*
I hope the Irish Christmas is not green, but as white as titanium dioxide!
Hi! I have nominated you for the very inspiring blogger award. Visit this link http://elixirofmemories.wordpress.com/2012/12/19/very-inspiring-am-i-thank-you-erica/ to accept the award!
Cheers!
I am a busy, busy, busy bee at the moment, but as soon as I am done with Oliver Colors I shall check that link.
Vincent yet again as is your master plan you intoxicate us with a small amount of words. Well done 🙂
I tip my hat!
I wonder now…if this ever thwarted the boy’s grip on the edge of rainbows.
If the girl floating on the cloud above the rainbow is pretty, he shall cling to the rainbow with his teeth.
Eager boy!
Sure didn’t see that coming 🙂
You mean to say all American fathers are decent persons? Ever since I saw American Beauty I have my doubts…
No, I would never say that all biological fathers in any country are good. There will always be evil parents. Just didn’t see the axe coming 🙂
