Jonathan and his husky Snowflake were inseparable. They ate together, they ran together, they slept together. When Jonathan fell ill, Snowflake fell ill too. When Jonathan wept, Snowflake wept too. When Jonathan died, Snowflake died too. They made the dog a coffin, and buried them together, in the same grave.

Paul’s parents went to the market, but his aunt Diana said she had a headache and stayed home. She put on her hat, and went to read in her rocker in the garden. Paul joined her in the rocker. He slipped his hand under her colorful skirt. Diana kept reading.

Ralph often went hunting, but he never returned with any catch. His wife thought it strange that he always took a spyglass with him, but she said nothing. When Ralph’s son was old enough, his father took him hunting too, to the hill by the lake in which women bathed.
